When it comes to information security, sometimes if feels like you need the equivalent of The Avengers on your side: Captain America (or Iron Man, take your pick) as CISO, Thor for incident response, maybe Nick Fury as the data protection officer for CCPA compliance, Vision for cyber intelligence, Doctor Strange for access management, Hulk for fraud prevention, Spiderman for…
You get the picture. Information security roles and tasks are diverse, and skilled talent is in short supply. Most small to medium sized businesses just can’t afford to fill all these specialist roles with full-time employees. (Even Marvel has to break the bank to get Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlet Johansson, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman and the rest together in one room, let alone film a movie.)
If you could get all those superpowers in one person, that would be a lot more cost-effective and require less coordination. It would also solve the problem of having to pay a whole superhero team when you really just need Antman and Falcon to get the current job done.

“I can’t tell you the number of times we talk with people who think they are fighting Thanos with the fate of the universe at stake when they are really battling Green Goblin (a perennially weak opponent).”

Some SMBs look for that one superhero in the form of a Chief Information Security Officer (CISO). But as diverse as the CISO role can be, one person rarely has all the skills and expertise to meet the full spectrum of organizational information security needs.
This is why Pivot Point Security has aligned our virtual CISO (vCISO) and Virtual Security Team services to give you à la carte access to just the expertise you need. Because sometimes you need a supergroup, and sometimes you just need a few really good people.
The key here is to understand the talent you need and that is often the challenge. One of my favorite line is, “you don’t know what you don’t know”. Its elegance is in its simplicity. If you find yourself thinking you need a team of super experts to solve your challenges, you may be right… or not.
If you want to bounce some of your thoughts off the Security Avengers (still waiting on approval from Disney to use that name) give us a call. I can’t tell you the number of times we talk with people who think they are fighting Thanos with the fate of the universe at stake when they are really battling Green Goblin (a perennially weak opponent).
